Arroyo Seco
Understand The Arroyo Seco Parkway was originally built in 1940 as part of the City Beautiful parkway-building craze of the early and mid-20th century. In 1943, it was extended through the Figueroa Street Tunnels that had been constructed in 1931. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. As a parkway, it is narrower and has shorter exits than later freeways, making driving at high speeds particularly unwise. Big trucks are not permitted on the Arroyo Seco Parkway. At various times, U.S. 6 and U.S. 66 were routed onto what has been the 110 since 1981.
