Latacunga
De stad Latacunga is de hoofdstad van de provincie Cotopaxi die bekend staat om de gelijknamige vulkaan. Op nog geen twee uur rijden van Quito ligt dit koloniale stadje langs de Pan-Americana. Vanuit Latacunga kan men de grote lokale markt van Saquisili bezoeken, de Cotopaxi vulkaan beklimmen en het is de beste plaats om een bergtocht van een paar dagen te beginnen door het gebied rondom het vulkanisch meer Quilotoa te starten.
